Founded in 1952, University of Southern Mindanao is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the rural setting of the small city of Kabacan (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Soccsksargen. This institution also has branch campuses in Kidapawan City, Buluan, Libungan and Alamada. Officially recognized by the Commission on Higher Education of the Philippines, University of Southern Mindanao (USM) is a large-sized (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational Philippine higher education institution.
