Founded in 1919, Latvijas Universitāte (University of Latvia) is a for-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Riga (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants). Officially recognized by the Latvijas Republikas Izglitibas un zinatnes ministrija (Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia), Latvijas Universitāte (LU) is a large-sized (uniRank enrollment range: 10,000-14,999 students) coeducational Latvian higher education institution. Latvijas Universitāte (LU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor's degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation), bachelor's degrees, master's degrees and doctorate degrees in several areas of study.
