Founded in 1954, Universitas Negeri Malang (State University of Malang) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Malang (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), East Java. This institution also has a branch campus in Blitar. Officially recognized by the Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi (Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology), Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) is a very large-sized (uniRank enrollment range: 35,000-39,999 students) coeducational Indonesian higher education institution. Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor's degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation), bachelor's degrees, master's degrees and doctorate degrees in several areas of study.
