Established in 1965, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto) is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the metropolis of Banyumas (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Central Java. This institution also has a branch campus in Purwokerto. Officially recognized by the Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi (Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology), Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP) is a large-sized (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational Indonesian higher education institution officially affiliated with the Islamic religion.
