National Association of Schools of Art and Design, Commission on Accreditation
Overview
The National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) is an accrediting agency that accredits art and design programs in the United States. It was founded in 1944 and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an accrediting agency for art and design programs.
NASAD's Commission on Accreditation is responsible for the accreditation of art and design programs. The commission evaluates programs based on established standards and criteria to determine whether they meet or exceed the minimum standards for educational quality.
NASAD's accreditation process involves a self-study by the institution seeking accreditation, followed by a site visit by a team of evaluators appointed by NASAD. The evaluators review the institution's self-study and assess whether the institution meets NASAD's standards and criteria for accreditation. The commission then makes a decision on accreditation based on the evaluators' report.
NASAD accreditation is voluntary and is intended to assure students, parents and the public that an art or design program has been evaluated and meets certain standards of quality. It is also intended to encourage institutional self-examination and improvement.
